After Nine Years with KOGA, Alee Denham Chooses idworx for His Next Great Adventure
For nearly a decade, Alee Denham of CyclingAbout rode and tested bicycles around the world as a KOGA ambassador. Across six continents and more than 100,000 kilometres, he developed a deep understanding of what truly matters in a long-distance touring bicycle.
When the time came to choose a new partner for his next major expedition, his decision led him to a familiar philosophy—and to idworx.
From KOGA Heritage to idworx Innovation
During his visit to the idworx headquarters, Alee met Gerrit Gaastra, whose family name forms part of the original KOGA brand itself: KOwallik + GAastra.
As Gerrit explains in the video, KOGA was founded by his parents and remained family-owned until its sale in 1992. The engineering principles that made the original KOGA famous—durability, reliability, functionality and attention to detail—continue to live on in idworx today.
It is no coincidence that Alee describes idworx as the spiritual successor to the original KOGA philosophy.
Why One of the World’s Most Experienced Bicycle Travellers Chose idworx
Alee’s decision was not based on marketing claims or sponsorship opportunities.
After riding around the globe for more than 100,000 kilometres, he was searching for a bicycle capable of handling years of continuous travel across remote regions with minimal maintenance and maximum reliability.
What he found at idworx was a company that approaches bicycle design differently.
Every detail is engineered with long-term ownership in mind:
* Rohloff and Pinion drivetrains for exceptional reliability
* Expedition-proven aluminium frames
* Through-axle trekking forks with integrated dynamo connections
* Long-life eccentric bottom brackets
* Stainless steel bearings
* Hardened steel chainrings designed for extreme service life
* Oversized braking systems for heavily loaded touring
* Titanium components where they provide real-world advantages
* Hand-built assembly by dedicated mechanics
At idworx, every component must justify its existence through performance, durability and functionality.
As the company name itself suggests: it works.
The idworx Rohler BLT
For his new Arctic-to-Africa expedition, Alee selected the idworx Rohler BLT.
The bicycle combines a Rohloff Speedhub transmission with a lightweight yet robust expedition frame, carbon fork, carbon wheelset, SON lighting system and carefully selected components developed specifically for long-distance travel.
The result is a bicycle built not for a showroom floor, but for years of real-world adventure.
Arctic Circle to South Africa
Alee’s new journey has already begun.
Starting at the Arctic Circle, he will ride south through Europe and Africa on a multi-year expedition that will ultimately take him to South Africa.
For idworx, this represents far more than a sponsorship.
It is a validation of the philosophy that has guided the company since its founding: building bicycles that prioritise function over fashion, engineering over marketing and long-term reliability over short-term trends.
When one of the world’s most respected bicycle travellers chooses idworx for the biggest journey of his life, it says more than any advertisement ever could.
We are proud to support Alee on his Arctic-to-Africa adventure and look forward to following every kilometre of the journey.
